Prozac (Fluoxetine) is an antidepressant in a group of drugs called selective serotonin re uptake inhibitors (SSRIs). This is used in treating depressive disorder, bulimia nervosa, obsessive-compulsive disorder, panic disorder, premenstrual dysphoric disorder. But this affects the chemicals in the brain which leads to unbalance and cause depression, panic, anxiety symptoms.

Discussion with the doctor before using fluoxetine:
Fluoxetine is also being used for various other purposes. Have a talk with your doctor as the intake of the medicine will provoke suicidal thoughts if you are 18 years old or below than that. Inform your doctor in case if you have any of cirrhosis of the liver, kidney disease, diabetes, seizures or epilepsy, bipolar disorder (manic depression) or
a history of drug abuse or suicidal thoughts.
When not to use this:
isocarboxazid (Marplan), thioridazine (Mellaril), or an MAO inhibitor such as pimozide (Orap), phenelzine (Nardil), tranylcypromine (Parnate). If you had taken MAO inhibitor then wait for 14 days. Also or selegiline (Eldepryl, Emsam) . Also wait for about 5 weeks of time after stopping fluoxetine before you take thioridazine(Mellaril).
Note: You must take this medication only when prescribed. Also avoid taking it larger quantities. Try to make sure that you get the best out of the medication. So always stick to your doctor’s advice.
